Indigenous Technology
Empowering Indigenous communities through computer science and AI.
As Vice President of IndigiGenius, I work to increase Indigenous representation and participation in computer science and machine learning -- building capacity, creating curriculum, and amplifying Indigenous voices in AI.
Lakota AI Code Camp
Co-founded the Lakota AI Code Camp, a program that teaches Python programming and data science to Lakota youth and community members. The curriculum is designed to be culturally relevant, connecting technical skills to real problems that matter to Indigenous communities.
I build and deliver the "Introduction to Python and Data Science" curriculum -- taking students from zero programming experience to working with real datasets, building visualizations, and training basic machine learning models.
Indigenous in AI
I organize and MC the Indigenous in AI Workshops at NeurIPS, one of the world's premier machine learning conferences. These workshops create space for Indigenous researchers, practitioners, and community members to share their work and connect with the broader AI community.
The goal isn't just representation -- it's ensuring that Indigenous perspectives shape how AI systems are built, deployed, and governed. Data sovereignty, community consent, and cultural context aren't afterthoughts; they're foundational requirements.
Speaking & Thought Leadership
I speak regularly on Indigenous AI, data sovereignty, and the intersection of technology with community empowerment. Highlights include:
- • TEDx Boston: Countdown to AGI -- Speaking on increasing Indigenous participation and perspectives in AI/ML.
- • TEDx Rapid City: Planetary Stewardship -- Indigenous-led technology for environmental impact.
- • NeurIPS Indigenous in AI Workshop -- Organizing and MCing workshops on Indigenous AI research.
- • WWF Innovation Hub -- Technology and conservation at the intersection of Indigenous knowledge.
The Mission
Growing up on the Rosebud Indian Reservation as Sicangu Lakota shaped how I think about technology. The tools we build should serve communities, not extract from them. AI systems should be accountable to the people they affect. And the next generation of Indigenous technologists shouldn't have to leave their communities to build meaningful careers in tech.
That's what IndigiGenius is about: building the pipeline, creating the curriculum, and making sure Indigenous voices are part of the conversation as AI reshapes the world.
